Sala Sarah Faiivae Iuli, passed away October 13, 2015.
By Semo Taetafa
Over the weekend there was a funeral of someone I feel was significant in our Samoan community...though there are many Samoans in National City, I feel like her family was one of the OGs who settled in National City. Sala Faiivae Iuli had passed and I wanted to pay tribute to her for me as a coach as I always remembered and appreciated her as a kid that she had made Samoan teams and started encouraging softball amongst the Samoan girls down in the South Bay. Her daughters all pitched and were great athletes, and she did sports (60s and 70s) when it wasn't a popular thing to do in our culture for women...one of our pioneers for women sports amongst the Samoan community, I bid farewell to Sala and thank her for her dedication and life to family, sports, and her people. Sending my love to the Faiivae and Iuli family and pray that the Lord comforts them through this tough time.
Sala Faiivae Iuli's final services were held Saturday, 7th November from 2:30-6pm at Greenwood Mortuary 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego 92113
